Obituary for Bobbie Jean Dixon Rooker

Mrs. Bobbie Jean Dixon Rooker was born in Lumberton, NC on June 24, 1948 to the late Ransom and Beulah Faulk Dixon. She was the youngest of six children.

Mrs. Rooker graduated from Rosenwald High School, Fairmont, NC in 1966. Upon completion of high school she joined the Job Corp in Huntington, West Virginia where she graduated in Business Administration.

In 1968 she joined the Women’s Army Corp and did her basic training in Anniston Alabama, Where she continued her field in Business Administration as a 71L. When the Women’s Army Corp merged with the regular Army she continued to serve her country.

Mrs. Rooker received many Awards while in the service to include the Joint Service Commendation Medal, The Defense Meritorious Service Medal, The U.S. Army Meritorious Medal, The Army Commendation Medal and more. Her Duty Stations included Ft. McPherson, GA, Schofield Barracks, HI, Tripler Army Medical Center, HI, Fort Steward, GA, Ft. Devens, MA, Karlsrhue, Germany, Berlin, and The United States Pentagon. Mrs. Rooker served honorably for 21 years before retiring in 1989.

While in the service she met and married Stephen H. Rooker. Who retired from the U.S. Army in 1986. They have been married for 46 years.

Mrs. Rooker was a member of Turner Station A.M.E. Church in Marietta, NC. She served faithfully on the Trustee Board, Member of the Adult Choir, Daniels-Roberts Area WMS Treasurer and she was the Church/Quarterly Conference Secretary, Local Lay president and Financial Secretary for the North Carolina Conference Lay Organization. Mrs. Rooker has volunteered at the Lumberton Christian Care Center since 1992 and was an avid Bowler at the Lumberton Bowling Center traveling from city to city all over the U.S. competing in different Tournaments. Mrs. Rooker was also a member of VFW Post 8969.

Whereas on Friday, October 11, 2019 at 1015 Bobbie heard the Masters Call entering into Eternal Rest joining her parents and three siblings; Retha Ray, Billie Cribb and Dorothy Reckley.

Mrs. Rooker leaves to cherish her memories a Devoted husband Stephen of the home. A brother Edward Leroy Dixon of Lumberton, NC; sisters Voncile Dixon of the home and Carolyn Dixon of Lumberton, NC. Two loving adopted children, Rakeem Reckley of Fayetteville, NC and Demetrius Alford of Lumberton, NC an a Aunt Ruth Dixon of Fayetteville, NC 15 nieces and nephews and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral Service will be 12:00PM Friday, October 18, 2019 at Turner Station AME. 3155 Olivet Church Rd. Fairmont, NC 28340

Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00PM Thursday, October 17, 2019 at Boles-Biggs Funeral Home of Lumberton.
